Food Web Network
Cofounder & CTO · Food Web · 2023 - Present
Peer-to-peer kitchen rental marketplace connecting food entrepreneurs with rental kitchens.
Overview
Food Web Network is a two-sided marketplace that connects early-stage food entrepreneurs with underutilized commercial kitchen space. We identified a real shortage of rental kitchens for chefs trying to get started — and at the same time, a lot of commercial kitchens sitting empty: cafes closed on Mondays, restaurants that don't open until 4 PM. That's unmonetized time in an era where running a restaurant is hard, margins are thin, and every hour counts.
Our platform lets renters book kitchens, equipment, storage, and even dining room space — while kitchen owners turn idle hours into revenue.
My role
As cofounder and CTO, I built the entire tech stack from the ground up and own the product architecture end to end. Beyond engineering, I lead partner negotiation and onboarding for kitchen operators and handle grant writing to fund platform growth.
What I built
The platform runs on Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS with ShadUI, deployed on Vercel. On the backend I use Supabase and Firebase — including a Firebase Cloud Functions API layer — with Stripe for payments, Resend for transactional email, and Sentry for error monitoring.
Beyond the core marketplace, I shipped several systems that make the product work in the real world:
- Scheduling system — the hardest engineering problem on the platform; coordinating availability, bookings, and kitchen capacity across two sides of the market
- Interactive asset map — living, user-contributed geographic data that self-updates as the network grows
- Referral system — designed and deployed end to end
- Credit system — platform credits for renters and kitchens
- Messaging — in-app communication between renters and kitchen owners

- Maps App — the living asset map as its own product surface
The hardest problem
The scheduling system was the most challenging piece of the build. A marketplace sounds simple until you're modeling partial kitchen availability, equipment bundles, storage add-ons, dining room blocks, and timezone edge cases — all while keeping both sides of the market in sync.
Outcome
We launched on December 8, 2026. Users are actively using the platform to discover kitchens and rent space from one another — turning dead hours into shared infrastructure for food entrepreneurs.
